× welcome.

New York City. Largest metropolitan area in the United States, and a central hub for global commerce, finance, media, culture, education, and research. Boasting an estimated 8.3 million in occupancy, the city engulfs six separate boroughs. The newest of these being "District X".

District X, or Mutant town, is a government created borough for genetic anomalies, located in lower Manhattan, which now seems like a makeshift ghetto. In an edition of the National Enquirer, District X was noted as having the "highest unemployment rate in the USA, the highest rate of illiteracy and the highest severe overcrowding outside of Los Angeles", even though New York City as a whole had seen a decrease in violent crime. It also had the highest crime rates in the country for narcotics, prostitution, and burglary, all within the five square miles of space. Though, violence is not only from within their own community, but also experiences a lashing out from the other boroughs as a result of the anti-mutant movement.

In the midst of these trying times, two mutants rose up from within the District.

First and foremost, Charles Francis Xavier, known only to the world as the “X-Man”, Charles believed that one day mankind would awaken out of their ignorance and accept mutants as being the next step in evolution. Fighting for justice, the masked crusader worked alongside the police department to capture criminals and keep the city streets safe. His goal was to prove that mutants were not evil, nor to be feared. It was smooth sailing, until his greatest nemesis rose up. A man known simply as "Magneto", formed a criminal gang of mutants which became known by the country as The Brotherhood. Fueled with contempt for being forced to live inside an impoverished overcrowded ghetto, and being treated like second-class citizens, Magneto and his like-minded peers sought to educate mankind about the superiority of mutants. Under Magneto's guidance, they used their powerful abilities to devastate the city with acts of violence and crime. Something akin to a small, but organized group of terrorists.

The Brotherhood and the X-Man have fought vehemently, but the people of New York City were beginning to place their trust in the X-Man. While under his watchful eyes, many of New York’s mutant criminals were behind bars, or locked away in asylums. He single-handedly combated against The Brotherhood, and thwarted all their attempts at human genocide, and city-wide control. Though, not without a price. In an epic battle one year ago to date, the man known as the X-Man had finally met his match against Magneto. No one knows exactly what happened, only that there was an explosion and neither Magneto nor the X-Man was ever seen again...

The streets have been quiet, and the fight for mutant rights continues. The X-Man’s impact swayed the city, and negotiations and talks are being made in the senate. Prejudice has subsided, but is still evident within the city. Today, mutants who can hide their mutations lead dual lives, and those who can’t are forced underground or into the darkest corners of the District.

Recent car jackings and minor convenience store robberies have made newspaper headlines, not for the crimes themselves, but because of the costumed crooks that did it. Paranoia has once again swept the streets, but the X-Man is not answering the call. With most of the Brotherhood behind bars, and Magneto only presumed dead, suspicion and controversy has hit the press like wildfire. Hatred and propaganda began to brew, and talks in the senate about mutant rights have reached a standstill. The registration act is rearing it’s ugly head, and the mutant community is up in arms. With crime rates on the rise again, anti-mutant groups have stepped forward. The formerly slack Police Department now have their hands full with petty crime cases.

With doubt and uncertainty rising in the hearts of New York City’s citizens, it’s up to new heroes to dawn a cowl when the villains come crawling out of New York's rotten sewers.

~heroists is an amalgam of classic dc character lines, thrown into a mix of x-men, creating solo, duos and sidekicks.
